The Reverend Dr. Donna Claycomb Sokol

Donna Claycomb Sokol is pastor of Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church, a diverse and growing congregation in downtown Washington, D.C. Since 2005, Rev. Claycomb Sokol has led the restoration and development of the congregation’s historic church, property and programs in a strategic partnership with a local developer and Wesley Theological Seminary.
Prior to her appointment at Mount Vernon Place, she was minister of congregational care at First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville, N.C. and, previously, director of admissions at Duke University Divinity School. Her public sector experience includes working as a White House intern in the Clinton Administration and on the staffs of U.S. Representative Eric Fingerhut of Ohio and U.S. Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa. She is a member of the Baltimore Washington Conference Board of Ordained Ministry and a contributing author for Pulpit Resource and other pastoral teaching and preaching resources. A regular speaker at national conferences on the subjects of faith and vocation, Claycomb Sokol has served as a faculty member for FTE’s annual Leaders in Ministry Conference and as a partner in its Calling Congregations initiative.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in economics from William Woods University, a Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School and a Doctor of Ministry degree in preaching at Wesley Theological Seminary.
