North American Doctoral Fellowships
FTE North American Doctoral Fellowships are for talented students from racial and ethnic groups that are historically underrepresented in graduate education. Students must be currently enrolled in Ph.D. or Th.D. programs in religion, theology or biblical studies. The fellowship provides financial assistance to outstanding candidates who might not otherwise have the means to complete their studies.
What does it take to be a North American Doctoral Fellow?
To apply for an FTE North American Doctoral Fellowship, you must:
- be a member of a racial or ethnic group that is traditionally underrepresented in graduate education
- be enrolled full-time in a Ph.D. or Th.D. program in religion or theology and demonstrate high academic performance.
- be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of either country.
- demonstrate a commitment to teaching and scholarship and a capacity for leadership in theological education. Preference is given to students nearing the end of their studies.
- Note: Students still in course work (taking classes) in the 2012-2013 academic year are not eligible to apply.
The application deadline for the North American Doctoral Fellowship is March 1, 2012.
What does a North American Doctoral Fellowship include?
Students chosen as FTE North American Doctoral Fellows receive a stipend ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 for living expenses. In addition, the recipient's institution must provide a full-tuition scholarship or remission as a condition of the award. FTE also provides Fellows with networking support. We maintain regular contact and act as an advocate for them in the profession.
