Collaborative Research Grants

Applicants must be current AAR members who have been in good standing for the previous three years. Applicants will not be considered who have received an AAR Research Award in the previous five years. These grants are intended to stimulate cooperative research among scholars in different institutions, with a focus on a clearly identified research project. They may also be used for interdisciplinary work with scholars outside the field of religion, especially when such work shows promise of continuing beyond the year funded.

Asian American Baptist Caucus Scholarship Fund

Seminarians can gain ministerial experience by working in a church during the summer. Grants of $500 are provided by the Financial Aid program and matched by the employing church. Interested seminarians should contact their pastor. Church pastors may call the Office of Financial Aid for Studies for additional information at 800-ABC-3USA, ext. 2067

Doctoral Study Grant

American Baptist students who have completed at least one year of Ph.D. studies may apply for a one-time doctoral study grant of $3,000. Students must plan to teach in a college or seminary, in a field of study directly related to preparing American Baptist ministerial leaders. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement in the first year(s) of doctoral studies. D. Min. students are not eligible.

Ellen Cushing Scholarship

Female graduate students preparing for a human service or church-related vocation are eligible for a grant with preference given to students active in their school, church, or region. A letter of nomination from a faculty member or administrator is required. Seminarian Support Program recipients are not usually considered for this scholarship.

Hispanic Students Grants

American Baptist Hispanic students pursuing an undergraduate or first professional degree in a seminary may apply for a renewable $500 grant. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and plan to serve in a church-related ministry. These grants may not be combined with other Educational Ministries aid.

Individual Seminarian Grants

American Baptist students attending a seminary not related to American Baptist Churches USA are eligible for grants in the amount of $750. Seminarians may apply for these grants each academic year for up to three years. Seminarians must be enrolled at least two-thirds time in one of the following first professional degree programs: M.Div., M.C.E., M.A.C.E., M.R.E. D.Min. students are not eligible.

Marion T. Burr Scholarship

Native American students enrolled full-time in college or seminary who are pursuing a career in human services are eligible for this scholarship.

Minority Student Scholarships

Freshman minority students attending an American Baptist-related college or university full-time may apply for a $1,000 scholarship, to be paid directly to the school and credited toward the recipient's tuition. Preference is given to persons preparing for careers in church leadership or human services. Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic standing. This scholarship cannot be combined with other funding from American Baptist Scholarship programs.

Pre-seminary Career Counseling Matching Grants

For persons considering ministerial service, Educational Ministries will match up to $100 pledged by an American Baptist church of other sponsoring organization toward the cost of a pre-seminary career exploration at an American Baptist-related career center.

Seminarian Support Program

This program, designed for American Baptist students attending American Baptist-related seminaries, matches pledges of support from local churches or organizations up to $1,000 per academic year to defray costs of tuition, fees, and books. Seminarians must be enrolled at least two-thirds time in one of the following first professional degree programs: M.Div., M.C.E., M.A.C.E., M.R.E. D.Min. students are not eligible. Recipients must be resident students of the American Baptist-related seminary that will award the degree.
