Andrew W. Mellon Fellowships in Humanistic Studies
The Andrew W. Mellon Fellowships in Humanistic Studies are designed to help exceptionally promising students prepare for careers of teaching and scholarship in humanistic disciplines. The Mellon Fellowship is a competitive award for first-year doctoral students. Holders of Master’s degrees are not eligible, except when the program was terminal (no Ph.D. offered) or when the M.A. is in a substantially different field than the intended Ph.D. studies. You must officially request an application. You will be asked a number of prescreening questions before an application will be sent. Requests can be made through the Internet site or by calling 1-800-899-9963 and asking for extension 127 or 149. Requests for applications will only be taken until December 4, 2001.

Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships
Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships are designed to support 12 months of full-time dissertation writing on original and significant studies of ethical or religious values in all fields of the humanities and social sciences. Applicants must be candidates for Ph.D or Th.D. degrees in doctoral programs in the United States, have completed pre-dissertation requirements by November 30 and be writing on a topic of ethical or religious values. Citizens of any country may apply.

Dissertation Fellowships in Women’s Studies
Eligibility: The Woodrow Wilson Dissertation Fellowships in Women's Studies encourage original and significant research about women that crosses disciplinary, regional, or cultural boundaries. Open to students in doctoral programs who have completed all pre-dissertation requirements in any field of study at graduate schools in the United States. Candidates must have completed all pre-dissertation requirements, including approval of the dissertation proposal, by October 24, 2004, expect to complete their dissertations by the summer of 2005. Candidates who are within a few months of completing their work should not apply.

Essay Prize for Doctoral Candidates
Awarded to students enrolled in accredited Ph.D. or Th.D. programs in theology or religious studies. The winner receives $1000 and their essay published in Word & World, the quarterly journal of Theology for Christian Mission published by faculty members at Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota. Additionally, other essays, besides the winning essay, may also be published and finalists will receive a year’s subscription to World & World. Essays submitted (3500 words in length +/- 10%) should be devoted to topics that are of theological concern for those engaged in the practice of Christian ministry; they should be written in a lively style that is fully accessible to that audience and should meet conventional scholarly standards for that kind of essay.

Education and Ecumenical Formation Scholarships
The World Council of Churches provides scholarship assistance to study abroad for candidates recommended by churches and church-related organizations. Applicants should have a college degree as well as several year's working experience. Nominated candidates must commit to returning to their home country upon completion of study to take up the task for which the training was requested. Scholarships are normally provided for periods between three months and two years.

Deborah Partridge Wolfe International Fellowship
This scholarship is available to graduate or undergraduate United States students studying abroad and/or graduate or undergraduate foreign students studying within.
