WHAT

Connect with fellow FTE/TiM Fellows, Residents, and Alumni in the Minneapolis area to learn how to communicate more effectively, and to a broad audience, through the written word. Facilitated by professional writing instructor Amanda Fields, and in partnership with the Collegeville Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research in Collegeville, MN, this interactive seminar will provide a taste of the Collegeville Institute’s expertise in teaching religious leaders how to write persuasively beyond the genre of the academic paper. You will learn about the power of writing for congregational life and in the public sphere, consider various occasions for writing—from newsletters to blogs and op-ed pieces, and explore your voice as a writer.

AmandaFields holds a Masters of Fine Arts in creative writing, with a specialization in literary nonfiction specialization, from the University of Minnesota. She currently teaches writing at the Universityof Arizona, where she is also pursuing PhD work in rhetoric, composition, and the teaching of English. She has taught writing at the University of Minnesota, the American University in Cairo, Egypt, and Iowa State University.

The Collegeville Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research is a meeting place and residential center where a diverse mix of people from various faith communities and backgrounds, including scholars, writers, professionals, artists and religious leaders, gather to connect faith to the demands of the contemporary world. If you benefit from this seminar, we encourage you to look more closely at the Institute’s in-depth summer writing programs. Visit the Institute’s website at www.CollegevilleInstitute.org.
