Description
Each year, forty newly selected Doctoral and Dissertation Year Fellows of the Fund for Theological Education attend the FTE Leaders in the Academy Conference. This year's conference will take place June 3rd-5th at both The Carter Center and Columbia Theological Seminary. The 2011 conference theme is "Reflecting Globally, Leading Locally: Theological Scholarship in Dialogue with Diaspora." The fellows are all a part of the FTE Doctoral and Dissertation Fellowship Program for African Americans and have been selected from a very competitive pool of applicants for these fellowships. The awards include a financial stipend, a travel stipend to attend the annual conference, and other professional development opportunities.
One of our goals is to engage these doctoral students in some of the contemporary issues facing theological education, scholarship, and teaching. These students, inspired by the topics and mentored by scholars, will leave the conference with strengthened intellectual and academic ambitions as well as a strong sense of vocation. Among the team of faculty mentors providing leadership for the conference is Columbia's own Dr. Marcia Riggs, J. Erskine Love Professor of Christian Ethics.
